KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government is to establish an integrated online system with the state’s finance ministry and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board to prevent falsification of sales tax declarations by companies in the state.
Sabah’s second finance minister Masidi Manjun said he was giving serious attention to the matter following several cases of false declarations reported through an advisory services session with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
“Measures to improve enforcement and collection will be taken, including amendments to laws and regulations if necessary, to ensure there are no leakages,” he said in a statement today.
A task force will be formed for the collection of any undeclared sales taxes.
Masidi said his ministry had also agreed to give a tax payment moratorium to companies who have made incorrect declarations so that they can pay the actual taxes following assessments. - FMT
