A Bersatu Youth leader does not remember the exact words used by then chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman when the latter allegedly directed the former to withdraw RM1 million from its bank account two years ago.
The party youth wing’s assistant secretary Ahmad Redzuan Mohamad Shafi today testified this during the RM1.2 million misappropriation trial against former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq.
The 11th prosecution witness made the concession during cross-examination by defence counsel Gobind Singh Deo regarding the alleged meeting between him, Syed Saddiq (above) and Bersatu Youth treasurer Rafiq Hakim in March 2020.
Gobind: Did you take down notes on the discussion at the time
Redzuan: No.
Gobind: Did you lodge a police report on the discussion?
Redzuan: No.
Gobind: What were the actual words used during the discussion that night?
Redzuan: I do not remember.
The witness also conceded that based on the reading of the Bersatu party constitution, the order to withdraw the money did not contravene the constitution.
Yesterday, in his written witness statement, Redzuan claimed that Syed Saddiq ordered him to take out the RM1 million from the party youth wing’s account during a meeting at the accused’s house in Petaling Jaya.
Redzuan alleged that Syed Saddiq’s order was to strengthen the latter’s then position as Bersatu Youth chief, further alleging the matter was against party procedure as any withdrawal of cash over RM500,000 must receive approval from the party supreme council and be accompanied by the appropriate paperwork.
