Rumours Sanusi to be replaced over floods not true, says aide

PETALING JAYA: An aide to Sanusi Md Nor has dismissed claims that the Kedah menteri besar would be replaced by another PAS top gun because of his so-called mishandling of the Baling floods.

This was after a newspaper columnist claimed that Sanusi’s alleged failings had led to talk that PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, a Kedah native, would take over as menteri besar.

Sanusi’s press secretary Muhamad Mat Yakim said contrary to what was portrayed by the columnist, Sanusi’s menteri besarship was solid and enjoyed the support of Kadahans at large.

Muhamad said the claim was not true, adding that the menteri besar was working around the clock on-site at the villages affected by the floods.

“What was Sanusi’s mistake or failure that would require him to be replaced as menteri besar?

“The columnist also claimed that Sanusi has ordered his aides to ‘clear’ the offices. The irony is, my office is a mere 10 steps away from the menteri besar’s office. There has been no order to clear out,” he said in a statement.

Muhamad also said the writer’s praise for Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, claiming that he was responsible to get the Bailey bridge erected at an affected village, made it sound as though the Kedah civil service and the menteri besar were resting on their laurels.

“I have only seen Azeez once at a disaster operation centre at Bendang Bechah. He also appeared to be in a hurry to leave once he saw Sanusi coming, giving the impression that he wanted to avoid the menteri besar,” he said.

Muhamad said while Azeez was being praised, the MP appeared to have shot from the hip when he called for all musang king durian plantations to stop operations.

He said the reality was that Sanusi had ordered for the plantations to stop operations when he took over as menteri besar in July 2020. Muhamad said Kedah has also had record-breaking foreign and domestic investments in the state ever since Sanusi took over.

Muhamad said Sanusi displayed empathy by openly apologising to the locals affected by the floods, although he was not responsible for what happened. - FMT
