Sabah MCA has lodged a police report against former attorney-general Tommy Thomas over his alleged correspondence with the descendants of the Sulu sultanate.
In a statement today, Sabah MCA said it wanted the police to investigate if there was wrongdoing on Thomas’ part, following the arbitration award which favoured the descendants of the Sulu sultanate.
Sabah MCA did not cite specific evidence of Thomas’ correspondence but instead said allegations regarding the document have surfaced on “several media statements” and on “social media”.
These claims, said Sabah MCA, had alleged that Thomas had conceded Malaysia’s “mistake”, resulting in the claimants’ success in securing the arbitration award.
“Sabah MCA urges the police to investigate whether the Pakatan Harapan cabinet was involved with or had discussed Thomas’ letter,” said Sabah MCA.
Among others, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had alleged that Thomas wrote to representatives of the claimants in 2019.
According to Najib, Thomas had offered the claimants RM48,000.
Najib was prime minister in 2013 when Putrajaya decided to cease annual payments of RM5,300 to the Sulu sultanate following an armed incursion of Sabah by followers of Sultan Kiram III. - Mkini
