KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Speaker Datuk Rashid Hasnon suspended Pasir Salak MP Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahmad for two days over his outburst in the Dewan Rakyat last Wednesday (July 20).
Rashid had given Tajuddin two minutes to explain his case.
“My answer is brief. I strongly object and deny the accusation from Batu Kawan and her peers who colluded to tarnish my image," he said.
Branding it as a "political assassination" and defamation, Tajuddin said this was a way to paint a picture that he was not fit to be a lawmaker as the general election was around the corner.
He said he would not have longevity as a lawmaker and Umno member if he did not respect women in the first place.
"Because I am so vocal, I am considered an enemy to you all.
"The conclusion is, it is all a political agenda to bring me down," he added.
An uproar then ensued in the Dewan Rakyat which resulted in Kasthuri Patto (PH-Batu Kawan) being evicted.
Rashid had ruled that it was not recorded in the Hansard that Tajuddin had uttered expletives, adding that he had consulted legal experts on the matter.
"Now I have made my ruling. He had to go out for two days when it (cuss word) was not mentioned,” said Rashid on Tuesday (July 26).
Tajuddin went on a tirade against Opposition lawmakers last week, reportedly calling several women MPs indecent.
The incident was sparked when Tajuddin accused several Opposition MPs of deliberately instigating and provoking their counterparts including the Speaker during debates.
However, Rashid only issued a warning to Tajuddin, adding that the MPs could write to appeal the decision.
Tajuddin had confronted the Opposition over remarks made by some of the MPs on Tuesday (July 19).
Teo Nie Ching (PH-Kulai) had said several MPs were prone to making sexist remarks while in the House.
Besides Tajuddin, she also accused Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (BN-Baling) and Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) of frequently making sexist remarks. - Star
