KOTA BARU: Tanah Merah member of parliament Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz today rubbished allegations that he had given out G-Shock watches and umbrellas to attract crowds at a recent gathering.
In a statement, he said such allegations made against him were baseless.
He said those who attended the launch of the Kelantan Perikatan Nasional (PN) event on July 2 had done so on their own volition.
"There is no truth in a news portal report which had questioned the huge turnout at the programme last Saturday, asking whether they were actual supporters of PN or they took part in the gathering due to gifts being distributed.
"If such watches or umbrellas were being given away as door gifts to 30,000 attendees, the cost would run into tens of millions of ringgit," said Ikmal Hisham, who is also the deputy defence minister.
He challenged those who made such allegations to bring forward those who had received the so-called watch or umbrella.
He said he believed the large turnout was a show of support towards PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who had done a lot for the people especially in handling the Covid-19 pandemic when he was the prime minister. - NST
