Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan confirmed today that the party had submitted all additional documents requested by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) for their application to amend the party’s constitution.
“Yes,” he told Malaysiakini when asked about the status of the request for additional documents by the ROS.
Earlier today, Ahmad said Umno had given the ROS up to two weeks to scrutinise the eight additional documents requested before providing feedback.
On July 7, the ROS said that a decision on Umno’s constitutional amendment application was to be revealed at the very latest by July 16.
The notice of constitutional amendment was submitted to the ROS on May 17.
Ahmad previously said that the party had twice submitted additional information to the ROS.
The party had sought approval from the ROS to amend its constitution to enable the postponement of its party polls until six months after a general election.
The Umno secretary-general previously said that the party has two options if the ROS does not approve its constitutional amendment to delay the party election.
These are a contingency plan he called “Plan B” - about which no details were provided - while the other option is to hold its internal election as required, which is by December this year. - Mkini
