KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional adviser Najib Razak says Bersatu’s leaders in Sabah are now riding on the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah brand as the party itself is starting to weaken.
Najib said the party’s Sabah leaders were no longer touting the Bersatu name as they did before. He said PAS was similarly seeking to contest the next general election under its own banner, rather than that of Perikatan Nasional.
“Individually, I see that the party’s strength is dwindling, and the same goes for Warisan,” he told reporters here.
GRS currently comprises Sabah Bersatu, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and the United Sabah National Organisation.
GRS and Barisan Nasional are partners in the Sabah state government.
Najib said the political situation in Sabah would depend on how things turned out in the peninsula at the general election.
He said BN seemed to have the edge in West Malaysia currently, but believed the same would happen in Sabah. “In the context of Sabah, we have to show that BN is not just a peninsula-based party,” he said. - FMT
