KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 874 candidates scored a perfect 4.0 in cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in their Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination in 2021, a slight increase compared to the 741 candidates in 2020.
Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM) chairman Ekhwan Toriman said of the total, 584 candidates, or 66.82%, were from the B40 group.
He said that overall, the national CGPA for the 2021 examination increased by 0.01 point to 2.79, from the 2.78 recorded in 2020.
“Based on a comparison of the overall CGPAs between urban and rural candidates since 2013, this was the first time that there was no difference between urban and rural candidates; both obtained overall CGPAs of 2.79 in STPM 2021,” he said when announcing the examination results.
MPM chief executive Adnan Husin said one of the contributing factors was how the examination was scheduled after 20 weeks of face-to-face classes, while students had time after that period for virtual learning, compared with the previous year.
“There was a lot of time for both urban and rural students to learn the subjects they sat for,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ekhwan said the number of candidates who got 5As and 4As in the STPM examination also recorded an increase, with 36 candidates obtaining 5As compared to 23 in the previous year, and 860 candidates scoring 4As compared with the 744 in 2020.
He said a total of 42,369 candidates registered to sit for the STPM 2021 examination, of whom 40,926 sat for the examination.
He also announced the list of the best STPM candidates, including candidates with special needs and Orang Asli students, who will receive plaques and certificates from MPM in recognition of their efforts in achieving excellent results.
Candidates can check their results at http://stpm.mpm.edu.my/stpmK or via short messaging service by typing STPM, their IC number and index number to 68886, beginning today. - FMT
