Anwar considering Tambun seat for GE15

Anwar Ibrahim said PKR’s focus was on the number of seats to be contested and the election machinery.

IPOH: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim is considering a proposal for him to contest the Tambun parliamentary seat, in Perak, in the 15th general election (GE15).

The Port Dickson MP said the proposal had been made to him but he had yet to decide on it as the party’s focus was on the number of seats to be contested and the PKR election machinery.

“What do you think? If you say I can, I will think about it. That is a suggestion that I am considering,” he told a news conference after the Perak PKR leadership council (MPN) meeting here.

“The Tambun PKR branch has suggested this but I have not decided on it while my friends in Port Dickson are appealing for me to remain there. I have to think about this first.”

It was previously reported that Tambun branch chief Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad wanted to make way for Anwar to contest the parliamentary seat in GE15 and this was agreed upon by party grassroots at the branch’s annual general meeting.

The incumbent is Bersatu’s Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is also the youth and sports minister.

On seats and candidates for Perak PKR in GE15, Anwar said this would be discussed at the party’s presidential council meeting.

Earlier, he said the leadership council meeting agreed to appoint Tanjung Malim MP and PKR vice-president Chang Lih Kang as Perak MPN chairman for the 2022-2025 term. - FMT
