PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 26-year-old babysitter following the death of a four-month-old boy.
Ampang Jaya police chief Farouk Eshak said the Indonesian woman was taken to the Ampang magistrates’ court this morning to be remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
He said the woman, who did not have a criminal record, had been looking after the baby since June.
“She claimed to have found the baby having breathing difficulties in his cot with a napkin over his face,” he said.
The baby’s parents had dropped him off earlier at the woman’s condominium in Taman Cempaka, Ampang, on their way to work.
Farouk said the babysitter brought the baby to Hospital Ampang but attempts to resuscitate him failed.
He said the medical staff told the police the boy may have been dead for some time.
Police are investigating the case under the Child Act 2001 for child abuse, neglect, abandonment or exposure. - FMT
