KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia said its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been vindicated after the Federal Court upheld former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's conviction, his 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine for misappropriating RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.

Muhyiddin had repeatedly raised concerns since 2014 over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal as allegations of mismanagement and corruption mounted.

The Pagoh member of parliament was dismissed as deputy Prime Minister in 2015 on health grounds.

Johor Bersatu chairman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal said Muhyiddin had gone through hardship and challenges in his political career after voicing out against the moral and financial scandals involving Najib.

"Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia expresses gratitude over the decision made by the five-man panel of judges chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat that reflected the justice and independence of the country's judicial system.

"The conclusion of Najib's final appeal at the Federal Court proved that Muhyiddin's fight was unerring in upholding justice and fight against misconduct," said Sahruddin in a statement.

Party members should be proud of their leader who was sincere in patiently fighting for the religion, race and country, he said.

He said Johor Bersatu also expressed gratitude to Muhyiddin for taking a bold step in exposing the 'country's ugliest scandal'.

"The court's decision will become history and continue to be ingrained in the minds of the Malaysians.

"Bersatu will continue the fight (in protecting) moral values and integrity because no one wants to willingly allow the country to be abused by greedy leaders."

Sahruddin urged Bersatu members to close ranks and remain faithful in their fight, motivated by the upcoming general election, and lead Perikatan Nasional to victory. - NST
