PETALING JAYA: Following the Federal Court’s affirmation of Najib Razak’s conviction and sentence, his daughter said the former prime minister “did not stand a fighting chance” in the trial.
In expressing her disappointment, Nooryana Najwa vowed that the family and supporters would not rest until her father was “safely back with us” and “justice is served”.
“But Bossku does not end here,” she said in an Instagram post, referring to his moniker.
“I’m sorry daddy. Maybe we didn’t fight hard enough, maybe we placed our fullest trust in our justice system and maybe we too believed wholeheartedly in our cause and purpose, so we stood defiantly these four years.”
Nooryana said that despite this, the family was proud of Najib’s strength during the trial and would hold onto her father’s words of wisdom that “they can control everything, but they cannot control your emotions and strength of mind”.
Najib was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment and a fine of RM210 million – in 2020 – after he was convicted on seven charges brought against him for abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC International funds amounting to RM42 million.
His conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal in December 2021 and affirmed by the Federal Court today.
