Cops nab two in PenjanaKerjaya-linked NGO leader assault

Police have arrested two men suspected of slashing an NGO leader's neck, believed to be in retaliation over the latter's MACC report on alleged misappropriation and false claims made for the Human Resource Ministry's 'Program Insentif Pengambilan Pekerja (PenjanaKerjaya)'.

Malaysiakini understands that the two men in their 40s and 50s were arrested around the Klang Valley yesterday in connection with injuries sustained by Mani Maran Manickam, the chairperson of NGO Malaysian Indian Hope Association.

On July 27, Mani Maran told Malaysiakini that he was cornered by an individual at the parking lot of a hotel in Kajang at around 1.40pm, and was caught off guard when the person attacked him from behind with a razor, resulting in 16 stitches on his neck.

When contacted, Kajang district police chief Mohd Zaid Hassan confirmed the arrests but declined to reveal further details.

At the time, Mani Maran also claimed the assault was linked to his MACC report implicating two BN-component party leaders in the PenjanaKerjaya scandal.

Mani Maran suffered a second attack on Aug 5 after a suspect, who has also been arrested, slashed his left wrist with a knife.

On Aug 6, MIC secretary-general RT Rajasekaran announced that a member of the party's Youth wing has been suspended over allegations of assaulting an NGO leader. - Mkini
