PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin will meet Ismail Sabri Yaakob tomorrow on the agreement signed between the coalition and the Umno vice-president before his appointment as prime minister.
“I will meet him tomorrow,” Hamzah told reporters after an event here this morning.
On July 28, PN voiced its disappointment with Ismail over his failure to fulfil promises he made to the coalition.
Then, Hamzah said the coalition had decided to send a delegation to meet Ismail on the fulfilment of the agreement it struck with him.
That came amid revelations that Ismail signed an agreement with PN before the Umno vice-president’s appointment as the ninth prime minister in August 2021.
According to leaked copies of the agreement, a deputy prime minister’s post had been promised to PN lynchpin Bersatu.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang denied the existence of such a formal agreement between PN and Ismail, but its secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan later admitted to drafting a “memorandum of agreement” between the two sides in August 2021.
Meanwhile, Umno Supreme Council members and Cabinet members from the party claimed that they were not informed of the agreement. - FMT
