Kiplepay cautions users of potential indirect data breaches

E-wallet service provider Kiplepay Sdn Bhd informed its Kiple Visa Prepaid Card users on Monday via email of risks through a recent third-party payment gateway provider data breach.

Kiplepay is a wholly owned subsidiary of Green Packet Bhd.

“The customer communication was released following Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) notification to the company, which highlighted the recent potential third party data breach incident.

“BNM requests that the company notify affected cardholders of additional protective measures that are being taken to protect them against risks of fraudulent or unauthorised transactions that may arise from this incident,” Kiplepay said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The data breach highlighted was a cybersecurity incident which has occurred to a third party and may affect Kiplepay users who performed transactions using the third-party payment gateway system.

“We take a serious view on our security and compliance measures in line with BNM’s policies, directives and requisite security standards. We would like to reassure our users, merchants and business partners that our service integrity has not been compromised,” Kiplepay chief executive officer Ricky Lew said.

He said Kiplepay has also heightened its security and fraud monitoring measures to detect and prevent any suspicious transaction activities and continue to safeguard Kiplepay users.
