Najib’s conviction doesn’t strengthen PH, cautions Saifuddin

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail believes the instability in Umno would persist.

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak’s conviction in the SRC International case does not mean Pakatan Harapan (PH) has become stronger, says PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said PH must strengthen itself through its own efforts.

“That is why I never chose Najib as a target because it was only a matter of time before he went to jail,” he said when commenting on his adversary’s conviction.

Earlier, the Federal Court upheld Najib’s conviction and sentence in the SRC International trial.

Najib, who was convicted on charges of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering will now serve 12 years’ in jail and pay a RM210 million fine.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin said he also expected the instability in Umno to persist and dissatisfaction toward Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to increase.

“Ismail is seen as ‘washing his hands’ (of Najib’s case), and this cannot be accepted by Umno members who support Najib,” Saifuddin told FMT. - FMT
