Namewee takes dig at 'political frogs' in new song, Syed Saddiq cameos in video

Controversial rapper Namewee is back with a song that takes a dig at ‘political frogs’ and has a cameo from Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in the music video.

The music video for the song, which is simply titled ‘Katak’ (Frogs), was premiered on Namewee’s YouTube account yesterday and it also features local rap groups 5Forty2 and The Real Masta Clan.

The chorus of the song refers to “froggies” who like to jump “here and there” and promise wealth if one does as they say.

The song also makes references to “frogs at the backdoor” who “suddenly appear and disappear”.

The chorus is interspersed with different verses from Namewee and the two rap groups in several different languages - Malay, Mandarin and Tamil.

The music video features Namewee in a shirt with a frog on it and a frog hat, and also many scenes of seven men dressed in formal suits and ties, wearing a frog mask and gold dollar sign sunglasses, dancing in various locations around Kuala Lumpur.

Towards the end of the music video, the seven men danced in a restaurant, attracting the attention of Syed Saddiq who was eating there.

In a later scene, Syed Saddiq is seen attempting to dance along with Namewee and the seven men.

Frogs reproduce at rapid pace

In the credits of the video, Syed Saddiq gave a sarcastic speech about frogs being the national treasure of Malaysia, while the seven men stood behind him.

“Frogs are a protected species in Malaysia. They have a super high IQ and are extremely skilled in hopping with an abundance of collagen and most importantly, they are very rich.

“Under the care of our nation for years, frogs continue to mate without rest, reproduce rapidly and increase in numbers over the years.

“Everyone should remember, in Malaysia, frogs are the national treasure of Malaysia,” he said.

At the end of his speech, as he is attempting to chant ‘Long live the frogs’, the seven men carried Syed Saddiq off-screen.

At the time of writing, the video has garnered almost 90,000 views.

In late July, a constitutional amendment bill - dubbed the anti-hopping bill - aimed at discouraging MPs from switching parties was passed in the Dewan Rakyat.

Elected representatives jumping parties became a hot topic following the Sheraton Move in February 2020, which saw the Pakatan Harapan government fall due to the defections of a number of MPs. - Mkini
