No point in ‘sumpah laknat’ when facts show otherwise

We are witnessing what can only be described as tumultuous political developments in our nation. It seems some with power feel that they can do as they please.

Now, we have convicted individuals performing the sumpah laknat (religious oath) and even got others to pray for them in mosques.

They are even hurling criticism against the judiciary and judicial processes, showing their inability to accept facts.

And the individual’s supporters are offering utmost loyalty to the former, so much so that they have become blinded to the facts presented.

Whatever the case, truth and justice must prevail. The nation cannot be held to ransom by those who perpetuate abuses and misdeeds.

What the country needs are leaders who will uphold honesty, integrity, responsibility, accountability and national interest paramount, the elements that determine good governance.

Rule of law must prevail

As for the said individual, there is no use in invoking religion or God by performing a sumpah laknat especially when the facts are not in your favour.

And people should not participate in any effort to undermine the justice system to “right the wrong”. Our national interest must always prevail over vested interests.

As Merdeka Day draws close, it is heartening to see the majority of Malaysians putting national interest first against anyone’s personal interest. We must understand what affects Malaysia will also impact our well-being.

Our public institutions, when governed based on the rule of law, will move us to become a successful and respected democratic nation.

As such, we cannot allow a group of self-serving individuals to continue to bring shame to our country and society. They should never be permitted to bully their way into getting what they want.

How can we become an effective Malaysian Family when our “parents” and “elder siblings” are not being responsible?

And how can we succeed as a family when such leaders are not promoting unity and harmony but sowing discord and division, violating their oaths of office at the same time?

As “parents” of the Malaysian Family, our leaders must lead by example. - Mkini
