Police to probe RPK over claim about ex-top cop's girlfriend at Najib's house raid

The police have opened investigations over the claim made by political blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin (RPK) that former top cop Amar Singh’s girlfriend was present at a raid at former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s house in May 2018 and had left with one of the seized bags.

Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said their investigation unit received a police report this afternoon on the allegations uploaded onto Malaysia Today and a YouTube account - both of which are run by Raja Petra (above).

“The criminal investigations unit of the Dang Wangi district police headquarters has opened an investigation paper under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The police are carrying out the probe now and the investigation papers will then be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,” Noor Dellhan said in a statement today.

Section 500 of the Penal Code outlines the punishment for defamation while Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act deals with harassment and being offensive online.

Amar, who was formerly the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director, had reportedly lodged a police report earlier today against Raja Petra over the allegations.

He said two other retired police deputy directors, who were present at the raid, also lodged police reports against Raja Petra.

Amar, who retired in December 2018, also denied the allegations made by Raja Petra about his girlfriend, saying the raid was conducted in full compliance with the strictest rules applicable.

“Detailed records were made of what was recovered. No such lady was present nor anything removed as alleged.

“It is important to note that the raid was conducted by a team comprising several deputy directors and assistant directors of the police, very senior police officers, of which some later became directors and state police chiefs.

“There is just no way anything can go through this team without anyone noticing. Moreover, this team just met on the day of the raid.

“There is, therefore, no possibility of any conspiracy to cover up. I had purposely comprised all my teams from different elements so as to prevent future false allegations by mercenaries such as Raja Petra about the raid,” Amar said.

Amar had led 1MDB-related raids on premises linked to Najib following the fall of the BN government after the 14th general election in May 2018.

The items seized from the raids were valued between RM900 million to RM1.1 billion. - Mkini
