Senator Razali Idris said he was happy that he was given the opportunity to preside over Dewan Negara proceedings yesterday.
According to Berita Bersatu, Razali said he was called to act as the speaker because Dewan Negara deputy president Mohamad Ali Mohamad was on leave.
"When I was appointed (as the temporary speaker), I was rather nervous.
"But once I was on the speaker's chair, the nerves went away, and I carried out my duties," he said, adding that it was an important experience for him.
Razali and Dewan Negara president Rais Yatim took turns to preside over proceedings yesterday.
Razali is currently in his second term as senator. This term expires in August 2024.
He is also a Bersatu supreme council member and was widely speculated to have been nominated as the party's candidate to replace Zuraida Kamaruddin as plantation industries and commodities minister. - Mkini
