Sabah govt seeks police explanation over transfer of problematic officers

The Sabah state government wants the police to explain why the agency transferred nine problematic personnel to the state.

This comes after several opposition politicians criticised the police force for transferring its personnel, who were allegedly involved in an extortion racket in Gombak, Selangor, to Sabah and Sarawak pending investigations.

In a statement, Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor (above) said they are looking at the matter seriously as the police did not seek the state government's views before doing so.

"I want to ask that the police inform and discuss with me before taking such action, as I am the state security committee chairperson.

"I view this matter seriously, even though the action was just part of the procedures or disciplinary actions that the agency takes against their own personnel," he said.

Yesterday, Selangor deputy police chief S Sasikala Devi said nine police personnel involved in an extortion racket in Gombak were transferred to Sabah and Sarawak pending investigations.

Sasikala revealed this during an interview with Sinar Harian.

This prompted protests from opposition politicians, including Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, who wrote on Facebook that Sabah and Sarawak are not "rubbish dumps".

Similarly, Sarawak PKR information chief Abun Sui Anyit urged the police to explain why Sabah and Sarawak were chosen but not other states in Peninsular Malaysia.

"Sarawak and Sabah are peaceful regions. They are not centres for dumping problematic personnel from the peninsula," he said, according to the Malay Mail. - Mkini
