PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya has decided to give a 30% reduction in assessment fees for homes in Putrajaya valued under RM300,000, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

In a statement, Anwar said this was in line with his government’s goal to reduce the cost of living for Malaysians, particularly those in the B40 and M40 who own affordable homes in Putrajaya.

“This 30% cut is given to residential premises that have been completed since 2017, involving nearly 8,500 residential units.

“This reduction will be in force from Jan 1 and until it is reviewed by Putrajaya Corporation,” he added.

Anwar also said he had received numerous complaints from Putrajaya residents that the assessment fees for residential properties imposed on them was “quite high” compared to surrounding areas.

Property assessment fees are collected by local councils. The funds are then used to develop and maintain local infrastructure and services.

Putrajaya Corporation is the local authority that manages the administrative capital and it is under the purview of the federal territories ministry. - FMT
