Harapan MPs behaviour in Dewan Rakyat 'shocking' - Wan Saiful

Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan said he was worried about the country's political future due to the “conduct” of certain Pakatan Harapan lawmakers in the Dewan Rakyat.

Taking to Facebook today, the Tasek Gelugor MP said he was “shocked” by the screaming and yelling by some of the Harapan MPs during the Parliament sitting on Dec 19.

“I think the new speaker also would not have thought that the situation in the august house would turn so chaotic until he had to warn some of the Harapan MPs.

“I entered Dewan Rakyat with high hopes of making it a place where policies and suggestions can be debated in a rational and mature manner.

“And I'm confident that the new Malaysian political generation generally wants a more mature and healthier politics,” he said.

However, Wan Saiful (above) lamented that what happened was contrary to his aspirations.

“The conduct of some Harapan MPs makes me worry about the country's political future. They were screaming, disrupting debates, and outside the Dewan, they are suing (critics) left, right and centre, to stem dissent.

“Enough. Let us make the Dewan Rakyat noble and engage in civilised debates. Bring about good ideas and voice out dissent in a civilised manner,” said Wan Saiful.

He further warned that the new voters who served as kingmakers in the 15th general election (GE15) are watching.

“Do not let them down.”

Wan Saiful was referring to the shouting match that happened in the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 19.

One of them involved Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) raising a point of order, saying the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's name should not be used to justify the motion of confidence for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

This prompted Sany Hamzan (Harapan-Hulu Langat) to angrily remark that unlike former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Anwar is brave enough to face a vote of confidence.

Shahidan is then heard uttering “bodoh” (stupid), to which Sany repeatedly asked whom the former was referring.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul had to intervene to keep the house under control, ordering Howard Lee (Harapan-Ipoh Timur) to sit down and not to disturb. - Mkini
