All in the family - 5 deputy ministers related to political bigwigs

The deputy ministers of the Anwar Ibrahim government have been sworn-in.

The team is a mix of new and experienced faces - and a handful of them have caught public attention for who they're related to.

Among them is Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying.

The first-time Tanjong MP is the daughter of DAP stalwart, Lim Kit Siang and the younger sister of Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng.

Her brother Guan Eng is the current DAP chairperson and formerly served as finance minister in the previous Pakatan Harapan government.

He was not given a cabinet post this time around.

Another DAP deputy minister Ramkarpal Singh (Law and Institutional Reforms), is the younger brother of DAP deputy chairperson Gobind Singh Deo.

Ramkarpal had been a major advocate for legal reforms over the years as Bukit Gelugor MP.

His brother Gobind had turned down a ministerial post due to unspecified reasons but denied it was due to refusal to work with Umno president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Meanwhile, Deputy Economy Minister Hanifah Hajar Taib is the daughter of Sarawak governor and former chief minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud.

This is her third time filling a deputy minister post, having previously served as the deputy minister for Sabah and Sarawak affairs under both the Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob administrations.

In that post, she repeatedly defended Putrajaya's decision not to reveal a cabinet committee report on implementing the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Deputy Science and Technology Minister Arthur Joseph Kurup is the son of veteran Sabah politician Joseph Kurup - and heir apparent to the PBRS presidency.
