BN lawmakers have yet to receive explicit orders on how to handle the upcoming confidence vote for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Dec 19.
This was revealed by Jelebu MP Jalaluddin Alias, according to Sinar Harian.
Although no instructions have been issued so far, Jalaluddin (above) is convinced that all 30 BN parliamentarians will back the confidence vote to ensure the continuity of the government.
This, he said, was because of the "anti-hopping" laws and rules of each component party which barred MPs from acting against the party stand.
"Why should there be instructions to support (the prime minister)? I'm confident all MPs will support (the motion).
"This is not the time to cause problems in Parliament. Instead, it is a time for us to resolve problems faced by the rakyat.
"There is no need to disturb the government which we have agreed on forming," the Umno supreme council member added.
A motion to test the support of the MPs for Anwar will be tabled when the Dewan Rakyat meets on Dec 19.
This will be a purely symbolic move since Anwar's support will immediately be tested during the Dewan Rakyat's first agenda - the election of a new speaker.
Anwar has already formed a cabinet comprising MPs from Pakatan Harapan, BN, and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) - the three biggest coalitions with a combined 135 MPs.
Another 13 MPs from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat, Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and two independents have also pledged support for Anwar.
PN lawmaker wants to reject motion
Meanwhile, Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan told Sinar Harian his personal stand was to vote against the confidence motion.
"Personally, I will reject the motion unless there are instructions from the party to do otherwise. However, I cannot imagine we will support him.
"I have no confidence in Anwar and that is my right as an MP," the Bersatu information chief said.
Saiful also expected the Dec 19 sitting to be an exciting affair.
"I really want to see how Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his deputy Mohamad Hasan will state their support for Anwar.
"I want to see how Umno members will react to it," he added. - Mkini
