The Transport Ministry will suspend a haulier's permit temporarily pending an audit following a tragic accident involving one of their vehicles.
This was announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke on his Facebook page today, where he also expressed his condolences to the family who suffered the loss.
"I greatly sympathise with the victim's family who suffered the loss of their first child. I have ordered the Road Transport Department and Land Public Transport Agency to take action against the driver and the firm.
"The company's permit will be suspended temporarily for an audit of all their lorries. I will not compromise with drivers and companies who endanger the public," he said.
Loke was referring to a news report by Kosmo! on a recent accident in Gerik, Perak involving several passenger vehicles and a lorry.
According to the Malay daily, the cargo of the lorry tipped over at a bend and crashed into oncoming traffic.
A man who uploaded the dashcam video clip of the accident to the Dashcam Owners Malaysia Facebook group claimed that the haulier has not reached out to them.
When contacted, one of Loke's officers said preliminary investigation suggests that the incident took place in late October between Gerik in Perak and Jeli in Kelantan.
"The incident involved five vehicles. The matter is still under investigation," said the spokesperson. - Mkini
