Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said he will not resign as the chairperson of the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) until a successor was found.
According to Sinar Harian, Syed Abu Hussin (above) said his term only expired in 2024 and he will continue serving until he was given the notice to vacate his position.
"The new minister will choose a new chairperson to replace me. Only then will I step down. For now, there is no successor and I will continue to serve as chairperson to help the rakyat.
"I will not step down (yet) because (I want to help) fisherfolk. They need me. Moreover, I have a lot of work to complete.”
He said this to reporters during a ceremony yesterday to hand over outboard engines on behalf of the LKIM to 25 fisherfolk at the Matang Fisherfolk Association's office in Bukit Gantang, Perak yesterday.
‘Not taken salary in five years’
Meanwhile, Syed Abu Hussin pledged to those in attendance that his full emoluments as an MP - amounting to about RM25,000 - will be used on his constituents.
He said this has been his practice since 2018.
"I've not taken a salary in five years. (This term) will be no different. I will hand it to my service centre and they will channel aid to the rakyat," he added.
Syed Abu Hussin is a two-term Bukit Gantang MP. He won the first time in 2018 on a BN ticket and defected to Bersatu soon after.
He successfully retained his seat during the Nov 19 general election with a 6.11 percent increase in vote share. - Mkini
