KUANTAN: Pekan became the latest district affected by floods after 68 victims from 16 families were evacuated to the SK Mutiara temporary relief centre near here yesterday.
A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said as of 9am today, three districts, namely Temerloh, Bera and Pekan were affected by the floods, forcing 449 people to seek shelter at four relief centres.
He said Temerloh is the worst-hit district with 346 victims from 103 families seeking shelter at SMK Sri Semantan.
"Bera has 35 victims from 10 families at two relief centres while the SK Mutiara relief centre in Pekan was opened yesterday evening. The relief centres in Lipis, Raub and Jerantut were closed after all the victims returned home at noon yesterday.
"The weather across the state has been gloomy and rainy today unlike yesterday when the sun was out in certain districts," he said.
Meanwhile, the water level readings at major rivers which breached the danger mark in Pahang yesterday have dropped, with only Sungai Triang(in Bera) still remaining above the danger level.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) said Sungai Triang recorded 34.60m at 6am today, breaching the 34.50m danger level. - NST
