Putrajaya has scheduled Feb 24 next year for the tabling of the federal budget for the year 2023.
This will be preceded by the royal address in conjunction with the Dewan Rakyat's first meeting of the 15th Parliament on Feb 13.
MPs will debate the motion of thanks for seven days before Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim tables Budget 2023.
The debate on Budget 2023 will take place over 18 days. The final two days - March 29 and March 30 - have been slated for other government bills.
Earlier this year, the Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration had slated 28 days for debates on Budget 2023. However, Parliament was dissolved before the debates took place.
After the Anwar administration was installed, the Dewan Rakyat passed a "mini-budget" on Dec 19 to ensure that Parliament's approval for civil service emoluments would be paid on Jan 1, 2023.
The Dewan Rakyat will convene again starting June 12 and this session will last until June 27.
The third and final meeting will begin on Oct 9 and end on Nov 30.
The tabling of Budget 2024 will take place on Nov 19.
In all, the Dewan Rakyat has been scheduled to meet for 71 days, slightly higher than the 68 days during pre-pandemic 2019. - Mkini
