PETALING JAYA: The Communications and Digital Ministry has announced that users in certain groups will be able to subscribe to a RM30 prepaid plan offering 30GB data with 3Mbps speed for six months.

The plan is based on the existing Youth Package which was initially introduced for youths aged between 12 to 24 years old. Under a newly-announced Unity Package, the offering will be extended to youths up to 30 years old, those in the B40 group, persons with disabilities (PWD), senior citizens, as well as army and police veterans.

Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the offering aims to help lower the cost of Internet access for targeted groups. He added that the The Unity Package priced at RM30 offers a higher Internet speed from the original 1Mbps to 3MBps, with data allocation amended from 20GB for 90 days to 30GB for 180 days.

“Users can enjoy 50% savings compared to the existing offering which was for RM10/monthly to now just RM5/monthly,” he said, adding that it’s up to service providers to offer add-ons to users for the basic package.

He said the Unity package RM30 plan will be offered by CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia and YTL Communications to users from February 2023. More details will be unveiled by service providers later.

He also said that fixed broadband users can expect an announcement regarding pricing soon.

Last week, Fahmi announced that the government is holding talks with telcos to reduce service costs for consumers. - Star
