PETALING JAYA: Police have seized 320kg of syabu (methamphetamine) worth RM11.5 million disguised as Chinese tea in a raid on a house in Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Yahaya Othman described the seizure on Saturday as the biggest in the city this year.

Two men, aged 29 and 34, believed to have been active in drug trafficking since September, were arrested.

Yahaya said the syabu was believed to have come from the east coast for distribution in the Klang Valley and the surrounding areas, The Star reported.

He said police seized 13 sacks containing 310 packages of “Guanyingwang” Chinese tea in golden yellow and green packs believed to contain syabu.

He said the house was used to store the drugs.

Police also seized a car believed to have been used to transport the drugs, Bernama quoted him as saying at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.

Investigations revealed that the first suspect, a car salesman, had two drug-related criminal records, while the second, an online salesman, had one drug-related criminal record. One of them was tested positive for drugs.

Yahaya said the duo, who have been remanded until Dec 31, were believed to have been selling drugs for the local market and in the Klang Valley area. - FMT
