Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has accused opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin of attempting to “scam” the public.
This was over the Larut MP citing a report yesterday by an Italian news outlet called Agenzia Nova claiming that Anwar Ibrahim was Malaysia’s first “full-blown homosexual” prime minister.
“I thought Hamzah cited a website that was on the level of Bernama, BBC or the New York Times.
“Turns out the website is nothing. There is also no name for the journalist who wrote the ‘article’.
“Don’t try to scam, Hamzah” Fahmi (above) said in a Twitter post.
Fahmi attached a screenshot of most read news websites in Italy - in a report by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
In the screenshot, Agenzia Nova is not on the list of most-read websites.
In a separate Twitter post, Fahmi further claimed that even Italians have not heard of the news outlet, attaching a screenshot of a Whatsapp conversation with an unknown person.
The unnamed person claimed that they had never heard of the outlet in their 33 years of living.
Yesterday, Hamzah goaded the prime minister into suing the European news outlet for its claims on the prime minister’s sexuality.
He said that it was a clear insult to Anwar and that the latter must take legal action.
Hamzah added that Anwar had already been convicted “on the matter”, in reference to the prime minister’s conviction for sodomy.
Anwar was pardoned by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2018.
Hamzah had also pointed out that even Umno had now “accepted” Anwar as prime minister, following the king’s pardon. - Mkini
