Govt agrees to lower gas facility charge from 2023-2025

The government has announced that the gas facility charge will be lowered for the second regulatory period (RP2) starting from Jan 1, 2023,

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli (above) revealed this in a press conference today where he expressed his hopes that the lowered tariff could provide relief in terms of energy costs to the industry.

"Depending on the volume of gas consumption, this reduction in the average tariff of gas facilities is projected to translate into savings," he said.

Rafizi listed savings of between RM5.5 million and RM33.2 million for those in the delivery segment of the industry; and savings of up to RM55.9 million for the distribution segment of the industry in 2023.

"I hope that the reduction in the tariff of gas facilities will help the industry deal with the sudden increase in costs and further translate into another effort to control the increase in the cost of living for the benefit of the people," he added.

Rafizi noted that the government setting the gas facility tariff for each regulatory period is part of the gas market regulatory framework in Malaysia under the Incentive Based Regulation (IBR) framework.

"The new tariff for gas facilities for the RP2 from Jan 1, 2023, to Dec 31, 2025, involves four gas facilities," he said.

He named regasification terminals belonging to Regas Terminal (Sg Udang) Sdn Bhd (RGTSU) and Pengerang LNG (Two) Sdn Bhd (RGTP), a transmission pipeline owned by Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) and distribution pipeline owned by Gas Malaysia Distribution Sdn Bhd (GMD). - Mkini
