Gerakan Tanah Air, a new political coalition led by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad which suffered a total defeat during its debut in the recent general election, will proceed with its plan to register as a party.
This was the decision made by its supreme council during a meeting attended by all component parties and NGO leaders earlier today.
GTA secretary-general Marzuki Yahya in a statement said they will continue to be a political platform as per its original plan.
"GTA supreme council during a special meeting today has evaluated its performance in the recent 15th general election, where our component parties had used the Pejuang logo to contest.
"The meeting decided that we will go on with our effort to have GTA registration approved (by authorities).
"It was also decided that GTA will continue to be a political platform as what we have agreed upon before this," he added.
According to Marzuki, the meeting was chaired by Mahathir as GTA sponsor chairperson and attended by presidents of component parties Putra, Berjasa, Pejuang, Iman, and the leaders of NGOs that are part of the coalition.
GTA contested over 120 parliamentary seats in the election but lost in all. - Mkini
