PETALING JAYA: Ipoh Barat MP M Kula Segaran has called for consultation within Pakatan Harapan over the move to combine the election manifestos of the unity government’s components.

Kula, a DAP member, said the PH presidential council must discuss the issue so that parties in the coalition could understand how the election pledges could be fulfilled.

He made the call in the wake of a Cabinet decision to have chief secretary Zuki Ali form a committee to sort out how the manifestos of the various parties in the government can be translated into a common actionable plan.

Kula told FMT it was necessary to see how many of PH’s pledges could be addressed “at the earliest possible time”.

He noted that the government was already looking into the pledge to reduce the cost of living.

Early this week, economic affairs minister Rafizi Ramli said Putrajaya would select and combine some of the pledges made by the different components of the unity government.

He said negotiations for the selection of the programmes would be guided by the 18 commitments contained in the memorandum of understanding inked by the unity government leaders last Friday.

Among these are eradication of poverty, the provision of fair economic opportunities to the poor, enhancement of the separation of powers between the three branches of government, and safeguards for freedom of assembly and speech.

Johor Umno chief Hasni Mohammad has also commented on the issue, saying the government should come up with a framework listing its priorities and come up with a policy action roadmap.

“There are a lot of structural issues that each political party wants to address, but a sense of urgency should guide this,” he said.

Hasni said the government must decide which economic and social programmes needed immediate attention and how it would finance the initiatives outlined in the various manifestos. - FMT
