Pahang exco to be sworn in tomorrow

The Pahang executive council is expected to be sworn in at 2.30pm tomorrow at Istana Abu Bakar in Pekan.

It is understood that eight assemblypersons from BN and two from Pakatan Harapan will be appointed as the state’s executive councillors, Berita Harian reported.

Jelai assemblyperson Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail (above) was once again sworn in as Pahang’s Menteri Besar last Monday, following the state assembly’s dissolution on Oct 14.

Following that, Pahang BN reached an agreement to form the state government with Harapan after the results of the 15th general election (GE15) saw a hung Pahang state assembly for the first time as no party obtained a simple majority of 22 seats.

In GE15, BN won 16 state seats, one less than PN while Harapan won eight seats.

There are a total of 42 seats in the Pahang state assembly.

However, the Tioman state seat polling was postponed to Dec 7 following the death of PN candidate Md Yunus Ramli, 61, at 3.30am on the polling day on Nov 19, believed to be due to a heart attack.

Harapan has made way for BN to contest in Tioman.

Wan Rosdy, who is the Pahang BN chairperson, said the decision to work in a “unity government” with Harapan was to ensure the country’s political stability. - Mkini
