PSM has agreed with the call by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) that matters regarding foreign workers' management should fall under the Human Resources Ministry instead of the Home Ministry.
In a statement, PSM deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan said that it is important for the "long-standing migrants issue" to come under the ministry so that it is based on needs.
"Past practices under the Home Ministry are riddled with scandals and corruption.
"It is no use going round and round on this issue. For once, employers and workers groups agree that it (foreign workers’ management) must be under Human Resources (Ministry)," he told Malaysiakini.
Arutchelvan further urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to make public the report made by the Special Independent Committee on Foreign Worker Management, headed by former Court of Appeal judge Mohd Hishammuddin Md Yunus, during the Pakatan Harapan administration.
Arutchelvan was responding to the remark by FMM earlier today that it is disappointed with the government's constant flip-flop and knee-jerk changes to foreign workers' policies in the country.
The changes in policies have led to frustration and confusion among employers, lamented the federation's president Soh Thian Lai. - Mkini
