Sulaiman denies quit rumours, Rauf says he's only acting Malacca CM

Malacca Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali has denied rumours that he would be stepping down soon.

He told Utusan Malaysia today that news reports of his departure on Jan 3 were “tidak betul” (not accurate).

Yesterday, China Press, citing anonymous sources, reported that Sulaiman (above) would be replaced by Tanjung Bidara assemblyperson Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The report claimed that Sulaiman’s replacement was sanctioned by the Umno leadership.

China Press also reported that three members of Sulaiman’s state executive council will be replaced, including Rembia assemblyperson Muhammad Jailani Khamis.

Sulaiman, the Lendu assemblyperson, was appointed chief minister following the “Sheraton Move” in March 2020.

There have been repeated allegations that Sulaiman was being undermined by Rauf, who is Malacca Umno chief. Rauf has denied these charges.

Meanwhile, Rauf also denied allegations that he was replacing Sulaiman soon.

He told Malaysiakini that he was only the acting chief minister because Sulaiman was on leave until Dec 28.

Rauf is currently a member of Sulaiman’s cabinet in charge of industry, investment, and entrepreneurial development. - Mkini
