The alleged "luxury" handbag of Kelantan Menteri Besar's wife, Siti Zabidah Abd Hamidi, is a gift costing only RM300, says daughter.
Azma Ahmad, who is believed to be the Kelantan MB's daughter, said the handbag was a gift her mother received during a family day event.
"The handbag was a gift from all of us to mom during our Family Day 2022 event," she said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Dec 24).
She said people were quick to circulate slander.
"Some people have nothing better to do than to slander. Mom said it was better to buy gold if that bag had cost RM26,000," she said.
A photo of Siti Zabidah carrying a black handbag went viral recently as Malaysians online believed that it was a French luxury brand priced at RM26,000.
The photograph, taken on Thursday (Dec 22), was during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to the state to check on the flood situation.
Siti Zabidah had accompanied the Kelantan MB to meet the Prime Minister.
Azma's post was also responding to the Kelantan Menteri Besar Communication Unit (UKMB)'s Facebook post, which described the allegations as an attempt to tarnish the image of the state government leadership.
"This is a slanderous attempt to tarnish the reputation of YAB Menteri Besar of Kelantan through allegations directed towards the MB's wife for using luxury brand handbags without any evidence or checks to verify the claims.
"The truth is that the handbag only costs around RM300 instead of what is being claimed as a luxurious item costing RM26,000," it said.
