KUALA TERENGGANU: Universiti Malaysia Terengganu has relaxed several regulations to allow for online learning for students in view of the floods in the state.

Staff will also be allowed to work from home, the vice-chancellor, Mazlan Abd Ghaffar, said today. He said the measures would be able to provide uninterrupted learning and teaching.

Mazlan said the relaxation includes allowing online teaching and learning.

He said this was one of the ways of ensuring the welfare and safety of students as well as staff during the floods.

“Many students stay outside the campus, for example in rented houses in Kampung Pak Tuyu, Kampung Tok Jembal, Kampung Gong Pak Jin and Kampung Jati, and they are affected by the floods. They have difficulty moving to and from the campus.

“Online teaching and learning will be carried out now (during the floods) until further notice,” he said in a media statement.

Staff affected by the floods could apply for special disaster leave while those unable to get to the campus or office can work from home with permission.

A safe route to the university has been devised for those required to be on campus.
