‘Toppling unity govt’ remark was only my opinion, says Shahidan

PETALING JAYA: Arau MP Shahidan Kassim has clarified that his recent statement about plans to topple the unity government is merely his opinion.

Malaysiakini reported that the former Perlis menteri besar was hoping for such a move, although he admitted that there were no such plans being hatched.

“The plan (for Perikatan Nasional to be the government) was just my personal opinion, which I hoped and prayed would happen. That’s all,” he said.

“When I said that there was a move, that was my move. It is just that if there is a move (from other people), of course, I will back it (to make PN the government).”

Shahidan added that he had no information on any move to bring PN back into federal power as he did not hold any position in the coalition.

He also said that he could not speak on behalf of PAS or Bersatu.

On Sunday, Malaysiakini quoted Shahidan as claiming that there were plans to topple the unity government. He also hinted that Anwar’s Cabinet would not last long as PN was receiving strong support from its grassroots members.

However, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin was reported as saying yesterday that he had no information about any movement to topple the government as claimed by Shahidan.

Shahidan retained the Arau seat in the 15th general election on a PN ticket after Barisan Nasional decided not to field him. - FMT
