Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his speech in Tambun today suggested that all political parties work together to support his government and focus on helping the rakyat.
Appearing to be extending an olive branch to his political adversaries, the Pakatan Harapan chairperson said politicians can choose to either cooperate or keep fighting one another at the people’s expense.
“We can choose whether we want to continue fighting each other and let the people suffer.
“Or to cooperate as a team to ensure a better future for the country and make it more peaceful and prosperous,” he said during a Kenduri Rakyat luncheon at Taman Jati, Tambun this afternoon.
Anwar was in Perak for a series of programmes, where he first had an audience with Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah, before making his rounds in Tambun to thank voters who elected him into Parliament.
In his speech, the prime minister also expressed his appreciation to the Council of Rulers for their concern about democracy and the decision to have a unity government.
‘Put a stop to the political bickerings’
The decision, Anwar said, was meant to put a stop to the political bickerings plaguing the country
“What is the wisdom of having a unity government? It is to ensure that there is a strong government.
“There will be no more tiring political manoeuvres.
“(Because) the rakyat wants to have a better life, but the politicians had been fighting forever,” he said.
Anwar added that this was why Harapan, BN and Gabungan Parti Sarawak came together to form the government.
“Why? Because we want to ensure that bribery and corruption can be stopped, and for the government to care for the people,” he said.
