Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin will face multiple criminal charges tomorrow, according to MACC sources.
A source close to the investigation revealed that the Bersatu president will be charged under several provisions of the MACC Act at the court in Kuala Lumpur.
However, it has yet to be ascertained if the anti-graft agency would detain Muhyiddin overnight before taking him to court, as investigating officers have yet to decide.
"The investigating officers are still recording his (Muhyiddin) statement.
"So far, I can't say if they are going to arrest him. They will decide after they finish recording his statement," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
MACC chief Azam Baki has reportedly confirmed with Bernama and Berita Harian that Muhyiddin will be charged in court tomorrow.
He is expected to issue a press statement on the matter soon.
When asked to specify what case the Pagoh MP was being questioned and going to be hauled to court for, the sources declined to elaborate much except that there are multiple cases against him.
"There will be many charges," said an MACC insider.
Muhyiddin arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at about 11.15am this morning to give his statement to the anti-graft agency.
The Perikatan Nasional chairperson had last night confirmed that he was summoned by MACC to appear at its headquarters but did not provide details on what the investigation is about.
Bersatu bank account frozen
It was reported last month that Muhyiddin had appeared before MACC investigators on Feb 16, where they recorded his statement pertaining to the probe into two of Bersatu’s bank accounts, which have been frozen.
MACC had frozen the bank accounts to facilitate investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act. The two accounts reportedly contained about RM40 million.
If Muhyiddin is charged, it would be the latest in a series of charges laid against Bersatu leaders since mid-February.
On Feb 21, former information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan was charged at the Kuala Lumpur High Court for soliciting bribes of an unspecified amount and slapped with another charge of receiving RM6.96 million in bribes in 2022.
Several charges were also laid against Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.
According to the MACC, these charges were related to the Jana Wibawa scheme - a stimulus project by the then-Muhyiddin administration as part of the Covid-19 pandemic relief efforts.- Mkini
