A Perak PAS leader said the act of arresting opposition leaders and subjecting them to fabricated accusations was “uncivilised politics”.
In a statement, Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of making statements to "unmask" the hard work of the previous government in an ugly way, and pressuring enforcement agencies to accept accusations and create evidence against political enemies.
"This act is inconsistent with human rights and freedom, which is the slogan of Pakatan Harapan when they were in the opposition,” he added.
Razman (above), who is also a Perak state assemblyperson, argued that this was distracting the government from its main task of improving the economy and helping people struggling with the high cost of living and weakening ringgit.
Additionally, he claimed that there is no freedom when it came to criticising the government, urging the administration to stop acting like an “opposition in power” as it "will only create political instability in the country”.
He also urged the government to leave enforcement duties to existing authorities and not pressure them to find or create evidence against political enemies.
“The people are watching the situation right now, along with the MPs and assemblypersons.
"Stay away from ‘revenge politics’. This is not good for the future of the people and country,” Razman warned.
He was probably alluding to the series of arrests made by the MACC against Bersatu leaders, with the most recent summons being served to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, which took place yesterday.
A source close to the investigation revealed Muhyiddin will be charged under several provisions of the MACC Act in court tomorrow.
If Muhyiddin is charged, it would be the latest of a series of charges brought against Bersatu leaders since mid-February.
On Feb 21, Wan Saiful Wan Jan was charged at the Kuala Lumpur High Court for soliciting bribes of an unspecified amount, and another charge of receiving RM6.96 million in bribes in 2022.
Several charges were also laid against Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad, the Segambut Bersatu deputy chief.
According to the MACC, these charges were linked to the Jana Wibawa scheme - a stimulus project initiated by the then-Muhyiddin administration as part of the Covid-19 pandemic relief efforts. - Mkini
