Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin today said the party will take charge to lead as menteri besar of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan in the event Perikatan Nasional successfully captures the Pakatan Harapan-held states after the next state elections.
In his closing address at Bersatu's 5th Annual General Assembly, the Perikatan Nasional chief said this has been agreed upon in discussions with PN component party leaders, aside from retaining PAS in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
"In our discussions, it has been confirmed that in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, when we win and form government, Bersatu will lead as menteri besar," he said, but was quick to add, "don't ask who will be the MB".
As for Penang, Muhyiddin said the chief minister's position will be determined by the final number of seats won.
Bersatu leaders during the AGM had trained their sights on the upcoming state polls and Muhyiddin revealed preparations made include the division of key positions within each state administration.
"Which party will be the menteri besar, who will be the state assembly speaker, deputy speaker, excos. All these key positions have been agreed upon and decided.
"So when we form government we already know our positions, how many percent of the excos will be appointed from which PN party," he said.
In Selangor, Muhyiddin named Bersatu vice-president Radzi Jidin, Selangor Bersatu chief Abdul Rashid Asari and Bersatu supreme council member Azmin Ali as the party's "generals" in charge.
He said Azmin, who is also a former Selangor menteri besar, had made rough estimates that point to a possible victory for PN.
"Azmin, I'm holding you to your words. If we don't win, watch out," quipped Muhyiddin.
At a press conference later, Muhyiddin said seat distributions among PN parties are likely to see re-contest by incumbent parties, unless an agreement was reached for a swap. - Mkini
