Authorities have found the body of a Filipino man who jumped off a ferry on March 15 while being repatriated to the Philippines.
In a statement yesterday, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said the victim was identified as Razmel Abdul Rahim.
The marine police discovered the 31-year-old’s body at 8.39am yesterday.
"The body was found at the second Sandakan Port jetty some 600m from the location where the victim jumped. His body has been handed over to the police for further action,” the department said.
It received an emergency call at about 10am on Thursday about a ferry passenger who suddenly jumped through a window from the fourth floor of the ferry at 6.45pm on Wednesday.
The ferry manager, who witnessed the incident contacted the Sandakan district police headquarters at 8pm on Wednesday and a team from the Fire and Rescue Department was immediately sent to the scene to begin a search and rescue operation.
