'Datuk Roy' remanded three days over Jana Wibawa probe

A man known as “Datuk Roy” has been remanded for three days beginning today to facilitate the MACC investigation into the Jana Wibawa programme.

His counsel Fahmi Abd Moin confirmed with the media that Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court granted the remand order until March 16.

The lawyer said the order was issued by magistrate Noorelyna Hanim Abd Halim.

“The MACC had applied for seven days remand. However, we objected as the reasons given were not concrete.

“Thus the court allowed a three-day remand until March 16,” Fahmi said. The MACC was represented by its officer Ahmad Ashraf.

Fahmi added that the investigation is being conducted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

Yesterday, the New Straits Times reported that the man, who was wanted by the MACC to assist in investigations on the Jana Wibawa scheme has surrendered himself.

The English daily reported MACC chief Azam Baki as saying that Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir (above), known as “Datuk Roy”, turned himself in last night.

Earlier, Bernama reported that the authorities were searching for the 54-year-old man and urged the public to come forward with information.

The report suggested that the individual was the "mastermind" of criminal activity.

The authorities have thus far charged three politicians - including former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan - in connection with the Jana Wibawa scheme.

The Jana Wibawa scheme was launched in 2020 as a means of helping bumiputera contractors who were suffering during the Covid-19 pandemic. - Mkini
