PARLIAMENT | The MACC can lodge a report on Hamzah Zainudin's (Perikatan Nasional-Larut) claim that he has incriminating "files" against those in government, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Ramkarpal Singh.
He told the Dewan Rakyat today that the matter was "serious" and warranted attention from the authorities.
"I believe the statement was just made yesterday... I think the MACC officer can lodge a report to initiate a probe.
"I think it is normal practice (for the authorities) to lodge such a report," he said.
Ramkarpal (above) was responding to Gobind Singh Deo (Pakatan Harapan-Damansara) who sought the government's response to Hamzah's claim which he made during an interview with The Star.
Hamzah, a former home minister, said he had "a lot of files" on government figures which he could use against them.
This was in response to Putrajaya's decision to charge Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and several other party figures in relation to the now-frozen Jana Wibawa programme.

Muhyiddin has been accused of abuse of power and receiving RM232.5 million in inducements from several businesses and one individual. Today, he was charged with money laundering.
However, the opposition is claiming that Muhyiddin and other Bersatu figures were being persecuted.
Hamzah also told the Bersatu annual delegates' meeting that the party has "many options" to retaliate and warned Putrajaya not to test the party's limits. - Mkini
