PETALING JAYA: Bersatu information chief Razali Idris has challenged his Umno counterpart, Isham Jalil, to reveal whether Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had ever offered to resign when charged with corruption.
Razali said Muhyiddin Yassin had in fact tendered his resignation during a Bersatu Supreme Council meeting yesterday, but this was rejected by the leadership.
“Muhyiddin was adamant (on resigning). Then deputy president (Ahmad Faizal Azumu) tabled a motion at the Bersatu annual assembly where all delegates said no (to Muhyiddin’s resignation).
“Now I would like to ask the Umno information chief, did your president ever offered his resignation to the party’s Supreme Council or during Umno’s annual general meeting?” said Razali.
Isham had accused Muhyiddin of being hypocritical by not resigning as Bersatu president over his court case. He said Bersatu leaders had in the past called for Umno leaders with court cases to resign from their respective party positions.
Muhyiddin has been slapped with four charges of abuse of power and two charges of money laundering in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme. The former prime minister is expected to face another charge tomorrow. - FMT
